Uganda Christian University Nkozi B. A. Local Governance and Human Rights (2 years after completion of diploma) The purpose of the BA in Local Governance and Human Rights is three fold: first develop in students an understanding of the workings of local government and the processes of the decentralization system of governance; second to help students analyze local problems and come up with ideas to enhance sustainable development; third to equip students with a deeper knowledge human rights. At the end of the study program, students will gain capacity to think analytically about the further implementation decentralization in their professional setting. They will acquire knowledge necessary to impart development to the local settings of governance. Objectives of the Bachelor of Arts Degree 1. To promote participation in development based on decentralized governance; 2. To participate in the promotion of better public administration and people’s participation in planning; 3. To increase knowledge of human rights at the domestic, regional and international levels; 4. To enhance ability to think analytically about the further implementation and development of international human rights generally and in the context of local governance and African setting; 5. To understand the political, social, economic status of local governments; 6. To facilitate students collaboration with other professionals for the more effective development and application of international human rights; and 7. To assist students in having career advancement.

Uganda Martyrs University Distance Learning The Master of Arts Development Studies is offered on full time and Weekend The full time programme is at the main campus for one academic year. The weekend programme is offered in Kampala at the Uganda Catholic Management and Training Institute and in Masaka at Bwala teaching Centre. DEPARTMENT OF GOOD GOVERNANCE AND PEACE STUDIES The Department of Good Governance and Peace Studies is one of the departments in the Institute of Ethics and Development Studies. It is offering distance-learning programmes leading to Diploma, BA and MA of Arts in Local Governance and Human Rights. The purpose of programmes is to reach out to Ugandan society and beyond by offering services to people involved in decentralization and/or those who intend to participate in local governance, by offering them the knowledge and develop the capacity to meet the challenges in governance. Study Programmes 1. Diploma in Local Governance and Human Rights (Two years Duration) The purpose of the Diploma in Local Governance and Human Rights is to introduce students to issues of local government and help them to participate in the process of decentralisation. Secondly this programme develops the understanding of workings of local government and the processes of introducing the decentralisation system in local governance. The component of human rights in the programme helps students to develop the ability to make a contribution to the field of understanding and upholding human rights. At the end of the study programme, students will gain capacity to think analytically about the further implementation decentralisation in their professional setting.

Distance Learning Universities in Uganda Bachelor’s degree programme in Democracy and Development Studies. - Distance- Learning This course is run by The Institute of Ethics and Development Studies of Uganda Martyrs University. The course attempts to show that real development is not possible without democracy and that the reverse is also true: real democracy cannot function without development. Thus, the course is a cohesive unit. The workshops offered on campus are designed to further enhance skills learned at the theoretical level. All students must come to the residential sessions each year. Methods of Study and Assessment • Workshops: attendance at and participation in on-campus sessions is compulsory. • Assignments: on the completion of each module, two written assignments are prepared. A final assessment written exam in each module during the residential session. All components of the programmes shall contribute to the final mark. Distance Learning University in Uganda HOW TO APPLY Application forms can be obtained either from the Registrar’s Office in Nkozi, or the UMU Kampala Office located at the Uganda Catholic Management and Training Institute. Application forms can also be downloaded from our website (http://www.umu.ac.ug). In this case, the application fee will have to be paid before your application is processed. Application forms and course information can also be found at the UMU Centres (Soroti, Masaka, Mbarara, Lira, Mbale and Kabale) or with the Catholic Diocesan Education Secretaries. Undergraduate applications should be forwarded to the Registrar’s Office not later than 30th April2008. Postgraduate applications should be submitted to the School of Postgraduate Studies in February for March Application fee for undergraduate courses is UG Shs 15,000 and postgraduate is UG Shs 25,000. Uganda Matyrs University Community Outreach UMU is dedicated towards improving the lives of the surrounding rural population through the Community Outreach Programme. The University received a honorable mention in Community Outreach from the Association of Commonwealth Universities PR Marketing and Communication 2007/2008. In this regard the Vice Chancellor established a Community Relations Committee to enhance harmony with UMU neighbors. Furthermore the University has appointed a Director of Outreach Research and Development to coordinate research within the Community. In place is a Centre for Distance Learning Studies to coordinate all activities of distance learning students. The University runs on Semester system. However, the concept of a Catholic University in Uganda was first conceived as early as the 1940s. This proposal was resurrected in the 1980s, and the Episcopal Conference endorsed it in 1989. The University was officially launched in March 1993. It is one of the only three chartered private universities in Uganda.     Location The main campus is situated at Nkozi, 82kms west of Kampala. It is 2kms off the Kampala-Masaka highway at Kayabwe Trading Centre about 1km after the Equator. In total, the University has 17.471 acres of land at the campus and 220 acres at the farm. 2012/2013 uganda martyrs university fees structure By virtue of its status as a Campus of UMU, Nile University Campus of Uganda Martyrs University (NIUCUMU) legally becomes part of Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) under whose guidance it will operate in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two Institutions and the Universities and Tertiary Institutions Act of 6th April, 2001.  The choice to affiliate and accredit Nile University to Uganda Martyrs University is purposefully done based on the conviction that Uganda Martyrs University’s credibility and experience in University affairs coupled with its capacity to mentor could be used to give sense of direction to Nile University as it is required by the National Council for Higher Education in Uganda. Uganda martyrs university fees structure 2012/2013 Mbuye Farm School Diploma Program was born in 2006 with the approval of accreditation from Uganda Martyrs University. This means that it meets all the standards for deliveing quality education and its awards are fully recognised and comparable to those other of public high institution of learning.  Mbuye Farm School started 20 years ago by Masaka diocese with support from German Friends. It is located at Lusolo LC 1 village, 2 km off Lwanda trading centre on Kyotera-Rakai road, Lwanda sub-county, Kooki county in Rakai District.  Course Objectives:  The school will pursue the following course objectives to achieve the goal and work towards realisation of its mission:     1. to provide high quality education, designed to meet current demands of the agricultural sector    2. to prepare students to be self-reliant in their future service    3. to disseminate agricultural knowledge for modernisation, improved productivity and profitability of agriculture    4. to collaborate with Advanced Institutions and Universities, Non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Community Based Organisations (CBOs), Networks and individual enterprise with a stake in developing sustainable agriculture   Academic Program:  The program includes the following courses:     1. S/He should have at least a Master's Degree. A background in a health profession and previous experience in Health Promotion work or teaching at tertiary level will be added advantages. S/He should be competent in teaching and curriculum development. S/He should be capable of teaching adult learners. Duties of the lecturer will involve: teaching students of the various health management courses in the faculty, with focus on the Diploma in Health Promotion and Education; participation in curriculum review and improvement; research and publication; and participation in other activities in the life of the faculty and the university. Possession of a relevant IT certification like A+ or CCNA will be an added advantage. Required experience includes: A minimum of two years working experience working with maintaining, repairing and upgrading computers. The required skills are: familiarity with installation and troubleshooting of Linux operating systems, software maintenance and upgrade.
