Uganda Matyrs university Students’ Union (UMUSU) Uganda Martyrs University Students’ Union (UMUSU) is the body that brings together all students of the University. UMUSU is managed by the Student Leaders who are elected, through a democratic process, by the students. UMUSU promotes the social and organisational side of student life at UMU, including: sports activities, associations, clubs and societies. UMUSU leaders represent the interests of the students both within and outside the University. The objectives of the Students’ Union : • To promote and maintain harmony among the students. • To unite and cultivate co-operation among the students. • To protect and foster students’ rights and interests. • To effect and promote the academic, social and intellectual aspects of students life. • To link the students to the University Authorities. • To link the members to sister institutions and the outside world. • To ensure observance and respect University rules and regulations. • To promote members’ participation in development of the University

Uganda Matyrs University Community Outreach UMU

Uganda Matyrs University Community Outreach UMU is dedicated towards improving the lives of the surrounding rural population through the Community Outreach Programme. The University received a honorable mention in Community Outreach from the Association of Commonwealth Universities PR Marketing and Communication 2007/2008. In this regard the Vice Chancellor established a Community Relations Committee to enhance harmony with UMU neighbors. Furthermore the University has appointed a Director of Outreach Research and Development to coordinate research within the Community. In place is a Centre for Distance Learning Studies to coordinate all activities of distance learning students. The University runs on Semester system. The first Semester starts in August and ends in December and the second Semester starts in January and ends in May.

About Uganda Matyrs University Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private university established in 1993 and owned by the Episcopal Conference of Catholic Bishops of Uganda. UMU started with two faculties, 84 students and 7 staff members.UMU now has a total enrolment of 3,667 students following full-time, weekend and distance-learning Programmes. UMU’s main Campus is located in Nkozi Sub County in Mpigi District, in the Republic of Uganda and on the equator, 82 Kms west of Kampala along the Kampala – Masaka highway overlooking Lake Victoria. UMU’s Campus is environmentally friendly and ideal for study, learning, and reflection. Uganda Martyrs University Nkozi Umu UGANDA Martyrs University began its first academic year in October 1993. However, the concept of a Catholic University in Uganda was first conceived as early as the 1940s. This proposal was resurrected in the 1980s, and the Episcopal Conference endorsed it in 1989. The University was officially launched in March 1993. It is one of the only three chartered private universities in Uganda.     Location The main campus is situated at Nkozi, 82kms west of Kampala. It is 2kms off the Kampala-Masaka highway at Kayabwe Trading Centre about 1km after the Equator. In total, the University has 17.471 acres of land at the campus and 220 acres at the farm.
