Uganda Martyrs University Faculty of the Built Environment (FOBE)The mission of the Faculty, is to be relevant to current and future needs of developing countries and to educate outstanding men and women with design creativity and technical competence. The Faculty recognises that in a continuously changing built environment, professional experience and research are important contributors to achieve its mission.  Most courses in the Faculty are taught using a project-based integrated teaching approach, that integrates design, with the techniques and practices of construction, structures, materials and building services within a theoretical and historical context, keeping in mind human needs (social, physiological and cultural). These are supported by Workshops, Field Experience and Field Trips.  PROGRAMS Bachelor of Environmental Design (B.Envi.Des.) This unique 3-year non-professional program involves the arts and the sciences, written and graphic communication and analysis, engineering and managment as well as Architecture, Landscape Architecture and Environmental Studies.   Advanced Diploma in Environmental Design (Adv.Dipl.(Envi.Des.)) The Advanced Diploma in Environmental Design is a one-year full-time programme intended for individuals who have a previous qualification in an area of the built environment, as well as extensive experience in a relevant field, and would like to pursue a professional degree programme in the Faculty. It forms the basis for qualified individuals wishing to enrol in the graduate entry programmes in the Faculty.   Master of Architecture (Professional) (M.Arch.) The Master of Architecture degree is a two-year full-time professional programme that builds upon the B.Envi.Des. or the Adv.Dip.(Envi.Des.), and is intended for individuals who wish to work as professional Architects. The programme seeks to qualify highly capable, creative, innovative, and insightful Architects, skilled in their approach to architectural design and practice.  Master of Landscape Architecture (M.Land.Arch.) The Master of Landscape Architecture degree is a two-year full-time professional programme that builds upon the B.Envi.Des. and is intended for individuals who wish to work as professional Landscape Architects. The programme seeks to qualify highly capable, creative and insightful Landscape Architects, skilled in their approach to landscape architectural design and practice.  Master of Environmental Design (M.Envi.Des) The Master of Environmental Design degree is a two-year full-time professional programme that builds upon the B.Envi.Des. or other professional built environment programmes. The Master of Environmental Design prepares students for professional practice in environmental science from an interdisciplinary perspective. Students are expected to engage in scholarly research and develop specific knowledge and skills through learning and research in relation to the built environments. This will embrace a wide spectrum of learning and research including: ecological management and planning; building science and technology; sustainable design; history and theory of design; international development; and computer applications in environmental design.  WHAT MAKES US DISTINCT? - Programs in line with international professional standards - An integrated curriculum encouraging an holistic approach to designed environments. - In house consultancy DESIGN@UMU - Course-instructors and guest lecturers from Uganda and Abroad - Operational Building Material Testing Laboratory  FACILITIES The Faculty of the Built Environment is located at the Uganda Martyrs University campus at Nkozi. The Faculty has a Materials Testing Laboratory and a Computer Aided Design Laboratory equipped with the latest Macintosh models, and up to date CAD software. Senior students have access to Drafting Boards in a dedicated studio with wired and wireless internet access..
