Uganda Martyrs Nkozi University The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) Mission "To form a critical mass of health professionals with integrity, knowledge, managerial skills, attitudes and competencies needed to provide good quality health services to the Ugandan population." The Faculty comprises of fourteen full time staff with reputable training experience in public health areas of; Health promotion and Education, Community Health Insurance, Quality and safety and Health Services Management. Analysis and discussion by participants, of their experiences are some of the most useful and enriching teaching and learning methods used throughout all the course. Students are frequently given articles, studies and reports to read and summarise in presentations. Interactive lectures, case studies, problem analysis, problem solving, practicle exercises, guided sessions with audiovisual aids, are the main teaching methods. Programmes . 1.Certificate in Health Services Management. 2.Diploma in Health Services Management. 3.Diploma in Health Promotion and Education. 4.Advanced Diploma in Health Promotion and Education. 5.Advanced Diploma in Health Services Management. 6.Master of Science in Health Services Management. All courses mentioned above are offered on a full time as well as part time basis. The full time course option takes a minimum period of one academic year while the part time option takes a minimum of two academic years and a maximum of three academic years. Diploma in Community Health Insurance. 3. Diploma in Quality and Safety. Programme qualifications. 1. Master of Science in Health Services Management. Direct entry applicants should have a medical degree obtained from a recognized university and at least two years of working experience. Applicants with a degree other than medical need to have at least three years of working experience in health sector. Mature entry applicants should have an advanced Diploma or its equivalence in a health related field, with a minimum of five years working experience. 2. Diploma in Health Services Management and Diploma in Health Promotion and Education. Applicants should have a certificate in the relevant field from a recognized institution, with at least two years working experience. 3. Advanced Diploma in Health Services Management and Advanced Diploma in Health Promotion and Education. Applicants should have a Diploma in the relevant field from a recognized institution, with at least two years of working experience. 4. Certificate in Health Services Management. Applicants for the course are lower level employees in health management related fields with a minimum of ordinary level qualification from a recognized institution and a working experience of at least two years. Middle and top level public health managers with specific interest in particular modules. Other Services. Occasionally, the Faculty of Health Sciences offers research consultancy services in various public health related fields. It also runs short courses at District, Sub-District and Diocesan levels.
